Real Madrid to obliterate the transfer world record with £161 million deal for 18-year-old Kylian Mbappé
Real Madrid and AS Monaco have “an agreement” in place over the transfer of 18-year-old forward Kylian Mbappé, according to Spanish publication MARCA.
Mbappé burst onto the football scene with a series of blistering performances in the French division last year.
He began the 2016-2017 season as a substitute but quickly developed into a regular first team player because of his dribbling ability, finishing skills, and all-round attacking finesse.
Mbappé’s record of scoring or creating a goal once for every 70 minutes, naturally attracted an abundance of admirers. Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger even attempted to sign the player for an £87 million fee in June.
Now we know why Monaco rejected Wenger’s bid — it was not nearly enough.
That is because Monaco knew how much they could make out of selling their star asset. According to MARCA, Monaco has managed to negotiate an extraordinary and world transfer record smashing £161 million fee.
To put that into perspective, it is almost double the previous world record held by Paul Pogba, when Manchester United paid Juventus £89.3 million for the French midfielder in 2016.
MARCA says the fee will start at €160 million plus a further €20 million for add-ons like appearances, goals, or trophy wins.
Real Madrid has also reportedly already agreed personal terms with the player, as Mbappé “will sign for six seasons” having scooped a net salary of €7 million a year.
